Lost one of our hens yesterday

I am sorry you have had to go through this.
Were there any "parasites" on the hen when you found her?
*Graphic* I have heard where maggots can burrow through a live animal & typically come out around the vent area...

Or unfortunately, there are a lot of bizarre things that happen...sometimes unexplainable. Or, the chickens got bored.
But to prevent things like this some 'steaders add hanging toys or distractions to their areas.

Yeh we hung toys and a swing and even have a toddlers tiny house out there. didn’t see any parasites but who knows. We suspected that our cream legbar was the culprit. She’s pretty aggressive with our smallest. Bizarre things for sure. Would just like to be sure she wasn’t diseased so I know if I have to worry about losing any more of the flock.
