My husband came from Lowe's saying they had their 8X7.5 shed on sale. It comes with skylights, two windows, and a vent (round circle at top of roof). It might also come with shelving. The website shows $1000+ but Lowe's had it at around $400. I'm thinking that one vent isn't enough. Their is plexiglass over the windows? So, take that off (or window plastic out) and put hardward cloth there instead. Is that enough venting? I also talked to him about putting a doggie door to the side of the building and have a run to the side. We already have an 8X8 so could easily build another one. This would be an early morning run only since the chickens free range. The idea would be to open one of the big people doors on the front once we got up. What do you all think? The website for the shed is at http://www.lowes.com/pd_236537-7512...ntURL=/pl__0__s?Ns=p_product_price|1&Ntt=6411

I have a Rubbermaid shed for my chickens and it works great. What you have planned sound perfect.
If you pop the window plastic out, you could get an exhaust fan in there & have the hardware cloth fill up the gaps, if any. That should be plenty enough venting.
The write-up on the link you posted says that the window opens half way. You maybe could stick a regular fan in it.
Installing a pet door is a pain, but possible. We did it. I have a couple lame pictures of mine on my page.

We had the same idea. I had plans drawn up and ready, then went to Lowes and realized it would have cost 6-7 hundred dollars in Lumber. While we were there I checked out their steel buildings and ended up buying a 10' x 8' building for $240. Then just bought the lumber for a base to build it on (I wanted to be able to pull it around the yard with the tractor). I just put some initial pictures up today that show a little of what we have done. I will post more soon. We only have 6 chickens (3 White Rocks and 3 Rhode Island Reds) but so far it seems to be working great. I am currently looking at adding some ventilation but I don't anticipate that being overly difficult.
