Hello! One of my chicks (who is about 2 weeks old) has a small lump on her back towards her wing. It looks very cyst like, but is red as if others have been pecking at it. She is just starting to get her feathers in, so wondering if it’s a feather cyst? In which case, what do I do? How can I either make it less red so there’s no pecking, and/or treat it?

(Also, just as a side note, I have a big brooder and only 5 chicks so there’s plenty of room, a small roosting bar for them to play on and a mirror so they’re not bored.)

There is something called BlueKote, that is used to treat minor injury and it is blue in color. Chickens attract to the red from the blood of the injury and will make it worse. You can get it at the TSC, RK, or feed stores.
