I missed out on the strawberry season here in Michigan, yet I have a hankerin' to make some jam. Has enyone ever used frozen berries from the grocery store? I am thinking the whole berries, not the mashed ones in syrup. If you have done anything like this before, with whatever type of fruit, let me know how it went.

I haven't done it with frozen fruit purchased from the store, but to get enough berries to make a batch, I collect berries, wash and dry them, freeze them on wax paper, then store them in a ziploc bag until I have enough. This has worked great for strawberries and blackberries.

I'm not familiar with the berries you buy, but if they are just plain frozen berries without additives, they should work OK.

Thanks................I had not thought of buying the berries when they come up on sale and freezing them until ready to use. That way I would know that there was not anything done to them prior to processing (like having sugar or corn syrup somehow added). Everyonce in a while they have strawberries on sale and they are tasty ones, so this might work. Thanks.

Katy----so you make freezer jam from them instead of "canned" jam?

Yes...I make freezer jam instead of cooked. My family prefers the frozen to the canned kind. I think it tastes a lot fresher.
