Hi yall, New duck owner. I had 2 Mallard babies and one passed on day 3.So we got a Pekin baby as a friend. We thought they were both females. Today they are 21 weeks old or just a week over 5 months old. Delila is the Pekin. I saw for the first time a drake feather curl on her. Could she be male and if so is he too big for my mallard? Will he hurt her if they breed?

I have tons of ducks, The females can swim away, especially mallards. they will just dive under and push away. Don't worry about it, they are both fine. Plus they are bonded, so your doing more harm than good by separating

Yes, that’s a drake, and yes he is too big to mate with her. He could certainly crush her or drown her on accident.

I can’t see her getting away so easily, unless she flies away.
I’d expect she will either be very interested in mating him and get herself hurt, or she will be uninterested, and he will force himself on her. Her being the only female, too, she will be overmated.

Ducks don’t bond for life. They will move on if they need to be separated or rehomed.
