Hello! I got ducks last month and they were from a batch of mixed ducklings at Tractor Supply. I've been trying to figure out what they are... I figured the yellow ducklings that are now a cream color were either Pekin or White Layer Hybrid ducks, but nothing I looked at, looked like the brown ducklings I had. I finally called the hatchery that supplies Tractor Supply with its ducks. The person on the phone said the yellow/white ducks were probably Pekin because they started out with lighter color bills (I thought their bills were supposed to be bright orange?). She said the brown ducks were Golden 300's. I'm trying to figure out if they are boys or girls. I thought boys because of a lot of black on them, but the patterns on them look like some of the hens I'm finding online, but not like the drakes... So confused! What do you think? Also, their voices are a bit raspy, but I think it might be too early to tell? So far, I know one of the white ducks in female. The other white duck's voice hasn't really changed enough yet to tell. Here are some pictures of the brown ducks:

Almost 3 weeks old:

Just after 4 weeks old:

They are now 5 weeks old and they have even more feathers... I should post an updated picture tomorrow.

How can you tell they are white layers versus Pekins? Is it the bill, or something else?

I wish I knew about Golden 300's before getting ducks... I swear all the golden 300 ducklings looked the same, which means they only had males in the batch... I knew it was a risk getting un-sexed ducklings, but it would have been nice to actually have a 50/50 chance of getting females...

We know someone who is giving away sexed ducklings. We're looking at getting one to two females (depending on whether or not our other white duck is male or female) and keeping the males and females separate. We don't have enough money or land to support all the females that 2 or 3 drakes would need. Although, one of the drakes is pretty friendly. I might let him mate at some point.

The two brown one are Male 300's, the white ones may be either a Pekin/White Layer, Pekin have orange bills,White layers have pink.
