Hi there,

New to this and was offered some Marans but I dont know too much about the bread except their chocolate eggs. I just want to make sure they can tolerate the south florida heat and humidity. Any advice helps!

Marans are awesome and beautiful, the males have large combs that can help them stay cool. However, their dark color makes them heat up quickly in the sun. They are okay in heat, and with proper care would probably do well, however, they are known better for their cold tolerance.

I hope this helps. Best of luck!

Thank you! My girls have a super shady spot and I usually give them frozen treats and a frozen two liter to lay on/next to. We shall see what happens.

Marans are fairly heat tolerant. Just make sure that they have plenty of shade, good coop ventilation, and lots of cool fresh water available at all times. On really not days you can set up a sprinkler for them to run through and feed them treats like frozen watermelon chunks.
