Please delete if this isn’t allowed. I lost my best roo today and I’m having a hard time dealing with it. There has been a local Bobcat sighting at two areas near us and we live right between both areas. Within the days of those sightings we’ve now lost 3 birds in 4 days and the loss of Winston hurts.

This evening we lost Winston. Barney started going crazy outside and my great neighbors let me know something may have gotten a bird. All that remained by the time I got outside was feathers. I don’t really care if someone thinks I’m ridiculous to cry over a bird but I am devastated we have lost him. In the time we’ve had him he has made such a impression on us. While he may not have been too fond of cuddles he was spunky like his namesake and I am having a hard time knowing I won’t see him chasing around his ladies or hear his crow while I’m working tomorrow. Our pets are everything to us and Winston was one of a kind. 💔

I am so sorry for the loss of Winston Churchill (on a completely unrelated note, I am reading Erik Larson's The Splendid and the Vile -- which has made me a big Churchill fan).

When I lost my first chickens and a duck drake to a mink attack, I took feathers from all of them and keep them in a jar in my bedroom, a daily reminder.

I have cried countless tears over my birds. You have my most sincere sympathy and empathy.

Thank you so much. I’m glad my neighbors helped me find some of his feathers. This may sound ridiculous to some but I’m getting a little engraved stone with his image and some words. I spent all day today waiting to hear him crow or see him walking up our small hill with the ladies. I don’t have a lot of friends, I’m introverted and my animals mean everything to me.

I don't think it sounds ridiculous at all -- remember, you're talking to someone who keeps dead birds' feathers in a jar. And, when my very special cat, Pumpkin, died, I made a wooden marker for his grave which I later replaced with a painted stone one; I planted flowers there, too.

Whether or not you have human friends, animals can touch your heart and spirit in very special ways. Take care of yourself and his ladies; they surely miss him, too.

I finished reading the book about Churchill this afternoon, which made me think of you and the loss of your beloved rooster.

I hope you have not had any more predators, and that Winston's ladies are doing okay without him. I hope plans for his memorial are going well, and that you are able to begin healing a tiny bit.

Hi! Thank you for thinking of me. We haven’t had any losses since him. The hens are not fond of the roo who was beta to Winston’s alpha. I’ve been looking for some Roos to add. Just received Winston’s rock yesterday.
