Hi all! Bobbie our BCM hen contracted Mereks as a pullet. She has always had trouble eating, seeing, walking and grooming as a result. We were told that she and the chicks we got her with were vaccinated but all of them contracted Mereks and all but she and one other passed. She’s about 5 years old. We separate her and bring her in during the cold months. A few days ago we brought her in. I began taking a vegetable broth daily for my own health problems. I began giving this broth to Bobbie also. In just a few days she has improved greatly! The broth contains: beets, garlic, carrot, turmeric root, ginger root, onion all peeled and chopped and about a 1/2 tablespoon of fresh ground black peppercorns and water. Bring it all to a boil and simmer at least a 1/2 hour. I drink it hot, but cool it before giving it to Bobbie. Bobbies eyes are clearer, she is grooming, walking better and more easily able to connect with her food. Just wanted to share incase anyone has a hen afflicted with Mereks who might need a little boost.
