One of our chickens was attacked by our dog. we found it laying down pretty in shock and pretty hurt. we think it has a broken neck so we put it in a splint. though it might not be broken. it lays there most of the time. occasionally it moves backwards. when it’s laying down it lays it’s head down but when it picks it’s head up it picks it all the way up and pins it to his back so he looses balance and falls. nothing seems to be broken except maybe the neck. no bloody wounds or missing feathers. it’s eating well if i put food in his beak or put his beak directly in food. it drinks if i hold water under its beak. it really doesn’t move unless it’s flopping or moving backwards. we have him inside with some food and water. what’s wrong with him and what should i do? it’s a silkie btw

I would think if it’s neck was broke it would not have survived? Have you had a vet take a look at ru? Good luck and hopefully it will pull through.

He may have wry neck or other neurological symptoms from his head injury. Can you post pictures of him and the splint you made? Right now, he needs to be protected from other chickens and separated, along with being fed and watered. There also could be internal injuries that might affect him. Offering him wet chick feed, and a little scrambled egg or tuna in a small bowl or scoop often throughout the day. Make it all wetter if he is nit drinking enough water. You could also learn how to tube feed him, but try to get him to eat on his own. Let him rest and keep him in a quiet spot.
