Mexican "Costa Rican" Bantams

Here is my young pair of pyle "Costa Rican" Bantams. Funny thing, I'm not sure why bantams are called Costa Ricans here. ALL bantams are called costa ricans. Naked necks,soft feathered,hard feathered, just slighty smaller than standard size chickens, they're all costa ricans. So my goal is to create a standard for these so called bantams, and call them Mexican Game Bantams.

Standard weight: 22 Ounces for Cocks; 20 ounces for hens

Wings set middle height close to body

Tail feathers uniform; except for last primary feather. Slightly shorter than rest.

Straight Comb

Red Earlobes

White legs; white beaks in white and pyle varieties

I also had a BEAUTIFUL bbred cockerel that was even smaller than these guys. I really liked him, but unfortunately I woke up to find him dead the other day. Not sure why. Well anyways I have high hopes for this pair. I really like the look of the rooster,the hen started laying 3 days ago and has been laying daily. So hopefully I'll have my first batch of these guys hatched sometime next month. I also have a hen setting on a couple of golden ducking OEGB mixes who should be hatching this week. This will be a small scale project just to gain experience with raising chicks and such.

hi vention, im from costa rica, but i know in costa rica we called all bantams `finas` and japanese we called `jardineras`

Yeah that's pretty much the case here....It's weird LOL
Like people will call a rooster that's almost standard size a Costa Rican but also the small bantams.

I love those pearl white legs and the short sickle feathers in the tail. Very distinct.

Yeah I'm very fond of the sickle feathers. Never seen anything like them before around here. Only thing don't like about this roo is the bit of red on his legs and the bit of black on his tail.
BTW Do you guys think he'll color out to be a full pyle or just stay like this? When he was younger he was all white...

I was told the red on a rooster happens in the breeding season. Means he is ready for the breeding season.

Really? Never heard of that....Sounds interesting and I guess it makes sense.
Tomorrow I will try to get pictures of them next to my American game roo and my american game chick for size comparison....
