I noticed a lot of feathers in my coop/run a few days ago. Checked everyone out that was white. Nothing much except my Light Brahma missing her leg feathering. Had to go out of town for the 3 days so I planned to handle it when I got back. Just got home and she’s missing a ton more feathers. Not signs of anything crawling but she’s only 1 year so could she be molting already?

Your chicken shouldn't be moulting yet. I am leaning towards scaly leg mites. I would do some research on the beginning symptoms and let others chime in :)

She's got a lot of Pin Feathers coming in on her legs - molt.

Photos of all her, her head/face and body???

It does look like the scales may be slightly raised, but it's hard to tell with feather footed birds.

AFTER she finishes molting/growing the new feathers on the legs, rub in some vaseline or oil to the scales of the legs feet. Don't do it now, those pin feathers are painful enough.

A bird can begin molting at just about any time, at 1 year, it's a reasonable age. Watch to see that she's eating/drinking o.k. often they don't feel very well when molting. If she goes off her feed, then give her bits of egg, fish or meat to help boost protein.

Thanks! She came from a friends place a while ago and doesn’t particularly like to be touched still. Unless she’s roosting. I’ll grab a pic of her this evening.

Feathers missing everywhere. But the ones on her rear have been like that for at least a month or more.

Yes, I agree, you likely have a feather picker that is pulling out new growth around the vent. You can apply a little NuStock cream on the bum to see if that deters them.

Other photos show typical pin feathers coming in.
