I decided to hatch my own chicks this year instead of battling my way through the long lines at the local farm store.
4 of my hatching eggs were received for free from a friend with a mixed flock. All four of these eggs hatched!
Roosters: Black Jersey Giant and a Bantam (not sure which specific breed)
Hens: Black laced Golden Wyandotte, Olive Egger, White Leghorn, White Wyandotte, White Cochin, Black Cochin, Australorp
Egg 1- So for sure the white egg we received was from the White Leghorn- and the resulting chick was a rather large chick nearly white with a few black spots. I am guessing it is a Leghorn x Jersey Giant.
Egg 2- We had another chick hatch from a large brown egg that was identical in color/marking to the first... White Wyandotte x Jersey Giant?
Egg 3- Egg 3 was a small brown egg, and the resulting chick is black with white/yellow cheeks and belly and has black feathered feet. No telling what the roo is- but would this be the Black Cochin? The bantam roo does not have feathered feet per the farmer.
Egg 4- Egg 4 was a medium sized brown egg. The resulting chick is by far the most stumping for me. I have pictures of this one separately. Its chestnut brown with specks of red (hard to see in photo) across its back and has yellow cheeks wings and tummy. Any Guesses?? I was leaning toward golden wyandotte but they don't usually have fully yellow wings like that.
