So I hatched two Jersey Giants unknowingly. Got 8 eggs from an Ebay seller that were supposed to be Bielefelders, but only got one of the latter and two BJGs.

That said, I'm pretty certain both are roos, and I plan to keep one of them to breed with Black Australorps (going to call them Giant Australorps!).

That said, it is recommended that roosting bars be 12" for JGs and 18" for others. I'd rather not have multiple heights (planning on one height for all), so is 12" really too low for the other birds such as the Australorps?

Jerseylorps!

The roosts in our Nestera are not quite 9” off the floor, and the girls seem perfectly content. (The coop itself sits on a platform 2 1/2’ tall, 2’ above the litter level.)

I know that my Australorps preferred roosting as high as they could. When in a coop w/ open rafters that weren't wired, they chose them over the roosts. When i got wire put up, they weren't happy w/ me. 🤣
