I’m moving across country, literally. I’m taking 7 hens with me, but I’m taking my moving stuff too. The hens are all important. I have a 4x4x1 cage I'm taking for them, but their gonna be in the wind, they need to be in an enclosed ventilated secure spot. I was thinking to put cardboard on the sides of the cage, but I want some more advice on what to keep pine shavings from flying all over the place. We are leaving June 11th so I need advice sooner that later lol. Thanks for reading

Where are you moving from and where to? There are some states that have agricultural inspections and you may not be able to cross the state line with chickens.
You mean they’ll be outside, not in an enclosed vehicle?
They will be on an boat trailer, most likely covered with a tarp. Possibly they would be put on a covered truck bed. We are moving from Oregon to Mississippi

There is no way to move them in a protected and climate-controlled environment? Being exposed to wind, rain, sun, noise, exhaust fumes, and every variety of strangeness will be tremendously stressful for animals who hate any kind of change.

Might it not be better to rehome this flock and get new chickens once you're established in your new home?
