Hopefully some members can point me into the right direction or share some things for me to consider in this process.
We are planning on moving in the near future, due to job. I want to take full advantage of uprooting our life and make my decisions well to allow myself to have birds (and even a garden for that matter) without a bunch of terms and regulations hanging around. (I find it super unjust about how easy it is for a disgruntled individual to dictate another's property but that is another matter).
I am trying to look into county ordinances which feels like alot when counties define the same labels differently. I am taking notes, but I still feel like I could be missing an important snippet here or there scattered different sections.
I am not having much luck finding township ordinances, so does anyone know if those even exist?
(I live in a city so normally look at the city ordinances for stuff rather than township because they are kind of their own township)
I am not looking to keep a ton of birds, but I would like to have enough room in the ordinance to keep 20 birds at once if I so desired. Realistically, I would probably never go above 10 birds, and I would be surprised if I hit 10 as a long term to keep. Birds of consideration are ducks and few geese or chickens. Ideally, I am looking at 6 ducks and maaybe 3 geese for eggs and bug control. And I would prefer to go with water fowl. If I go the chicken route instead of water fowl, I can't imagine keeping more than 3 or 4. And they would be for personal use, no commercial stuff, but I want wiggle room incase I ever felt the actual need to raise or hatch fowl for meat for personal use in the warm months. (And yes I have been reading about these birds for a couple of years, so no worries, I am not jumping in completely blind, just as a newbie)
From my understanding, I would need an A1 property zone? Anyone know how to look for houses for sale by Zone type?
Anyone live in these counties that could share their experiences with local laws and even experience with neighbor interaction?
(Indiana Counties: Huntington, Whitley, Allen, Wells, Grant, Wabash)
I live a good way away from this area we are looking at, so I also assume the culture may be a little different too. I would ask if I am over thinking things, but sometimes the stories I hear online about things not going well just make me feel like I have to pay super attention to possible issues. Is there a better county or two over the others for birds or animals in general?
