My brother just tried to buy three chicks at Tractor Supply and they required he give them his address and phone number. He refused and they told him to put the chicks back. He says they are registering all chicks at the Government's orders. If this is true, are the hatcheries registering chicks they sell.............and why?????

Interesting. I haven't bought chicks this year but it makes sense because the chicks at TS and other farm stores come from major hatcheries and if one of those hatcheries has an outbreak (like Murray McMurray did last year) then they might want to call and warn you. Its a little Big Brother for my taste because if the government thinks your chickens are infected they can come out and euthanize every bird on your property. I would have out the chicks back too. There was a thread on here where a woman called to find out the symptoms and people showed up the next day and put her whole flock-ducks, geese and chickens-down without so much as testing them. I think they kept one for necropsy and the results were negative so it was a horrible situation.

Our local TSC has done this as long as I can remember - I know I had to give my name and address when I bought chicks there in 2021
