Yesterday i noticed my female duck had foam in her eye so i did some research and decided to use a saline solution to rinse her eye. Today there isn’t any foam in her eye but it’s red around her eye. She doesnt seem to have any other problems or symptoms just the eye. If anyone knows what it is or what i should do please share as this is my first time having ducks. I attached a picture of the foam in her eye from yesterday as well as a picture of the red around her eye today. (Its just the one eye and my other duck has no problems at all)

I know little about ducks, but are you aware they need a clear pan or bucket of water to dunk their faces into to keep their eyes and beaks clean? Hopefully others will chime in. Welcome to backyard chickens.

Yes they have a deep water dish as well as a pool. She went for a swim yesterday after i had noticed it so she was able to submerge herself fully under water but that didnt seem to really help.

I would watch her. Terramycin eye ointment from you feed store, where it is kept locked up, is good to use in the eye. Also plain Neosporin triple antibiotic will do in a pinch. Ducks can also be affected by respiratory diseases including MG (mycoplasma gallisepticum) which may cause foamy eye and other respiratory symptoms. Here is a good link to read:

Thank you so much. I’m gonna check the feed store and see if they have it, if they do ill get some as soon as possible. Ill definitely be keeping a close eye on her and doing everything i can to help, my ducks are my babies. I don’t want to take her to a vet unless i absolutely have to because we don’t have a local vet that takes ducks and i know the bill will be outrageous but if i absolutely have to i will. Do you think i should continue doing the saline flushes as well or just the ointment?
