My Jumbo Coturnix, hatched from UglyDucky eggs, started laying on Sunday - just a few days before their 7th week birthday.
Today, I got my 10th egg, and I just had to share!

Here they all are, packed away in one of the cartons their parents arrived in.

Here they are arranged by size, the first egg I found is on the left, and the latest egg I picked up this morning is on the right.

Here's a closeup of the biggest and smallest eggs - quite the size difference!

And here is their fate! To be boiled, peeled, sliced, photographed, then sprinkled with salt and pepper and devoured.
They were quite delicious.
I like how the little one has the tiny speck of yolk.. it thinks it's a real egg!

Are they hard to peel? Chicken eggs are difficult to peel when they are newly laid and I was wondering if it's the same for quail eggs.

we just ordered egg's to incubate so I'm curious what kinds of quail these are from and why the big difference in size is this normal? So far we have only raised chicken's I know sometimes my pullet's first few egg's will be a little smaller but that seem's like a bigger difference.

I love looking at coturnix eggs. They make some really interesting trinkets and sell really well if you blow em out and color em with food coloring.

They aren't too bad... but it did take me a week to get that many so it could just be that the few difficult ones were the newer ones, I'm not sure.

These are from Jumbo Brown Coturnix. These were the first 10 eggs I got, I got 2 double yolkers and a 'fart egg' in that batch, in my second 10 which I boiled up yesterday all the eggs were uniform. I think it was just the girls getting used to laying, they seem to have gotten the hang of it now.
