Hello everybody! We are the Griffin's, a family of 5 in Sterling, Alaska. I am a first time hatcher although we had free range chickens as a kid, we are attempting serama eggs. This is our story so far, if anyone has tips, pointers, help, advise, or constructive criticism let me have it.
We ordered our eggs from a seller on Etsy with amazing reviews, she shipped out the eggs quickly and while it look like charlie brown had kicked the package all the way to Alaska, they arrived with all air sacs attached. We let them rest for 24 hours while our Little Giant 11300 got calibrated and temped. Saturday(day 1 of incubation) we set them in the incubator, left the egg turner off for another 24 hours and let them come to temp and rest. Day 2 we turned on the turner, keeping the temp @ 99.5 and humidity around 45-50. I'm home full time and our girls are homeschooled so we have been keeping a temp log and making sure everything stays where it should. After the kids went to sleep last night I candled the eggs at day 5 (not expecting much, and also not wanting to disappoint the kiddos) I was super excited to see the we have 7 with embryos and vessels, the 8th is a darker egg and my light might not be powerful enough to see through but I am confident I saw vessels in it as well.
I have 1 question that I have seen debated. Should I hand turn these eggs (4xday) from now on or leave them in the auto turner till lock down? thank you all for any tips or well wishes on our developing flock
