I’ve been trying to introduce my dogs to my geese and chickens. My one dog, a Boston Terrier, named Dozer is scared of the geese and chicks. But my geese will still go up to him and try to pick a fight, I think they even have struck out at him. He barely wants to go outside anymore. He pooped in our house one time because he doesn’t like going outside where the geese are. They can really only go out when it’s mornings and evenings when all the birds are in their coops. I’m trying to do more introducing with him and the geese. Any tips to get my dog ok with going outside with the geese?

My other dog is totally different. He’s a miniature schnauzer (not really miniature, kind of medium sized), but he really likes the chickens. A few years ago when we got him, it took a while for him to get used to our rabbits. Totally fine with rabbits now. He runs up and down the fence of the chicken run and I can tell he wants to kill them. He’s even gotten in there, thank goodness I was right there to act. Thankfully no dead chickens, phew! Any tips on getting a dog used to chickens?
He’s sort of better with the geese. I can let him in the yard with no leash on and he’s fine with them. Except...the geese aren’t ok with him. They want to pick a fight with him, especially my gander Oliver. They’re both almost 4 months old and they’re White Chinese geese. My other goose, Daisy, just kind of hisses at him. When Ranger my schnauzer is doing his own thing, the geese will come up to him anyway to be bullies. They’ve bit him a few times and he tried to retaliate but I grabbed him in time. He was going for the neck of Oliver. They both butt heads. After Oliver bit my dog and bit the tender spot on his leg, I drove that darn goose off, chasing him, gave him a slight kick, and whacked him on his back. I love my geese and snuggle them every day, but sometimes they need some tough love especially when they’re mean to my dog for absolutely no reason. They don’t dare mess with me, they respect me and are imprinted to me. If they ever try to challenge me in any way, they learn to never do it again. I’m mostly worried that my dog will retaliate and kill my geese when they bite him. I know that one good chomp on their neck, and they’re dead. I don’t want to look out my window to see two lifeless clouds laying on the ground. Any tips to help my dog and geese to get used to each other? They really butt heads!

Also, my geese respect me and are imprinted to me. I snuggle them every day for a few minutes. But a couple months ago, they started to walk away from me when I walk toward them. So I have to kind of corner them to grab them. Any tips on getting your geese to not go away from you when you come toward them?

Any help would be really appreciated!

Does the fence you show in the pool pic keep the geese in that area? Or do they fly over it?
That pic was taken a while ago when I kept them in a run for a while. Now they free range my yard all day without having to be kept in a playpen because I feel like they’re big enough to not have an eagle or hawk eyeing them.

Geese can be aggressive. Mine will chase my dogs. I keep my geese in a fence, so my dogs don't need to worry about them. I would pen the geese or give the dogs a fenced area away from the geese. Boston terrier are sensitive dogs.
