My year and 2 month old hen has a injury. This has never happened to me before and I tried to research about it, I didn’t get much help. Her tongue pierced through the soft skin under her beak in between her 2 small wattles. The end that is poking out is hard and will not move at all. I tried to gently push it back in but it won’t budge. I opened her mouth and tried to pull it back into her mouth that way and it wouldn’t budge and she started getting uncomfortable and squawking. I’ve tried calling about 20 veterinary hospitals and none of them could help me. I am very fond of my chickens and to see our oldest pass away would be heart breaking. Please help! I will post a photo soon as possible

If this is as you describe, it's a job for a vet. Surgical instruments are going to be necessary to grasp the tongue from the inside of the throat and pull it back into place, then seal the wound in her throat with surgical super glue.

Do you have other pets? Is there a vet that treats them and gives them annual checkups and shots? If so, call them and describe the situation and state that you need their help and their instruments to assist.

If you meet a flat refusal, do you happen to have any friends in the nursing profession? You would be surprised how clever a nurse can be in assisting with a chicken crisis.

My poultry vet had to rush my rooster and I to a regular vet clinic because she did not have everything she needed for a lancing and they were very accommodating and we have scheduled a greater surgery with their staff to finish the operation. Regular vets CAN do something, it helped that my poultry vet was leading the arrangement though. Good luck and sorry to hear about your girl. I have no idea what happened to her but I am new to animal husbandry:confused:

I do have other pets but we don’t have a vet that we regularly visit. I don’t believe any of my friends are in the nursing perfusion sadly. We might just hope we can get a vet to atleast look at her and maybe they will be convinced to do the procedure

I will hopefully get her to a vet to help us out and atleast take a look at her so I can get her help. The procedure shouldn’t be too hard maybe 2 stitches to see the small opening once they get the tongue back in. Thank you! :)

Any idea how this happened? Can she eat/ drink? Good luck, I hope you can get the help you need.
She can drink small amounts, water will drip from her mouth when she does though, she can eat single pieces of grain here and there but it takes awhile for her to get it down. Thank you
