And I can't seem to help her.
Our mallard duck has been egg bound for about 3 days now! She has been bound before and I fixed (or so I thought) the problem. She went a month without getting bound a second time. She's been eating the same food that she's always eaten, when she can that is. She she attempts to walk she ambles with her tail tuck under, usually accompanied by out spread wings but not always. She regularly lays an egg in the morning, but just has not yet laid for 3 days. I have given her calcium supplements, warm baths, lubed her, massaged her and kept her away from the drake. She seems healthy otherwise and continues to clean herself (when assisted into the pool) and fluff her facial feathers, and hiss at the drake when he passes her. The only thing that I think continues to cause the problem, is that (as I have said before) have a Khaki Drake and he is a bit larger than her and tends to favor her over the other females I have. If I can fix this problem, I am going to get rid of the drake. However, I don't know how the flock will react not having a male around. I have some pekin drakes that are just getting their large feathers in so the females won't be stranded for long. Please If any of you know what else I could do for my mallard please share. I just don't think mallards should be kept for egg laying purposes. Perhaps if I can get her unbound, I should re-home her.
