I have a barred rock hen that is just starting to lay. Her eggs are are getting dented at the top point (front two in the photo). Is this because she's dropping them? Any suggestions? They don't seem thin to me. Maybe she needs more bedding?

I'm interested in feedback.

My Barred Rock is 24 weeks old and stared laying a few weeks ago. Sometimes she gives me a nice hard shelled egg but she is also laying really soft shelled eggs, they come 2 per day usually a few hours apart. All of my girls are the same age, are eating Purina Layena and I offer them calcium oyster shell supplements. My Easter egger and Australorp are both laying normal eggs.

I know it can take a bit for their little bodies to keep up but I'm starting to get concerned...

What are you feeding them?
Oyster Shells?
What are you using for nesting material?

It looks to me the egg has been pecked. The the egg exits the vent, the pointy end comes out last, from what I've seen :D

I have had days of cracked and eaten eggs from my new layers.... it’s not intentional, they keep moving eggs around. Sometimes they get it out of the box unbroken. That looks like she is pecking it after it comes out. She will stop.

I just recently added sand to the bottom of my nest boxes. Haven’t had a cracked egg in a while.
