Hello All,

I'm wondering if some of you might know why my rooster's comb is turning grey on two of the tips. Could it be that my coop is too cold at night? I don't have the heat lamp on anymore and that is the only thing that I can think of. He is a red sexlink, 20 weeks old now. I just noticed it today but this may have started in the past couple of days as I have not been out there much with all of the rain that we have had over the past two and a half days. Hoping some body can shed some light on this for me before it turns into something serious.

How cold is it in their coop at night?
That is a good possibility if it is in the 30's or colder. To help you can put bag balm or vaseline on it, though I haven't personally tried it to see if it helps.
Sometimes if they don't have enough water their combs and face could turn grey/purple. Do you have any other chickens with this, and do they have any other symptoms?

My roosters comb turned grey and black at the tips from frostbite , the tips of his comb fell off a week later, if it's the same as what happened to mine he should be better in a week or two , has it been really cold at night where you live, could you post a pic of him.

I'm going out there now to take a photo. I think it was 1 or 2 degrees celcius last night here... not sure what that is in farenheit.

Close to freezing in Fahrenheit. It's most likely frostbite. Is there enough ventilation but no drafts? How many birds do you have?

Mine's comb did something similar and someone helping me said that it was due to frostbite. Despite the fact that the temps were above freezing, the humidity was way high with a wet vehicle in our garage (where my chickens were staying when it happened)

We have 7 in a insulated coop that is 16'x8'. There are two small upper windows that I have open at night only a crack for air flow and then in the morning I open the full size door and both windows. We have only had them 2 weeks. I hope he's not sick. He seems pretty active.
