Hey everyone! As some of you already know, I ordered a batch of six "rainbow mix" hatching eggs that traveled over 3,800 miles to reach me. Out of the six, one was infertile and two sadly didn’t make it early on—but the remaining three hatched right on Easter (it’s now the 22nd where I am).

Based on the egg colors and what I was told, I believe I have an Olive Egger, a Copper Marans, and a White Leghorn. One chick has fuzzy, feathered feet; another has little muffs?; and their color patterns are all a bit mismatched—mostly yellow with orange feet.

One of them, the fluffy-footed chick, is slightly lighter in color. I’ve named her Suki (assuming she's a she!). The other two are still unnamed for now—two of my friends’ kids who live in the states will be choosing names for them.

Anyway... I took some video and would love your thoughts and advice on breed AND sex!
(as I dont know which is which anymore). I know the white leghorn (or at least the white egg) hatched first, but by midnight the other two hatched and they were crawling around like crazy.

Edit: Issue with the video- give me a second to debunk it.

Edit: adding in the egg shells of which the chicks hatched.

Black Copper marans hatch out black with white bellies. The cheeky one is definitely not a leghorn, nor is the feather-footed one. The cheeks are frequently (but not exclusively) colored egg layers and the feather-footed frequently (but again not exclusively) brown egg layers. Beyond that, have to see how they feather out. There can be some surprising results.

Right!?
I was expecting a dark hen. These are the three egg shells that hatched- without adjusting contrast.

Now my husband and I are placing bets—mostly for bragging rights (which I usually win, by the way). But this time, since neither of us knows much about chicken breeds beyond the little bit we’ve each skimmed recently (read: not much at all), I think it’s time to raise the stakes and make things a bit more interesting.

The darkest looks like a BCM egg (feathered legs), and the middle one could be EE or OE (cheek fluff). The white egg could be a bunch of breeds.

They could also be mixed birds, ie Mom was a BCM or OE and Dad was something else.

That’s exactly what I’m thinking. So basically, I paid a large chunk of cash to gamble on eggs shipped from what felt like Timbuktu… only to end up with a mixed grab-bag I could’ve picked up from the side of the road. Meanwhile, my own flock is sitting there like, you know we lay eggs too, right?

Now I’m just playing the classic game of “Rooster or Hen?” Because if the seller—who has conveniently vanished off the face of Oregon and closed her store—was already way off about the breeds, I doubt she’s going to pop back in to help with the chicken gender reveal.
