Last night surprised the heck out of me, I was sure (again!!) that some eggs werent going to hatch. I heard peeping, looked in, and one little baby duck, black with a cream colored chest. I left him in hoping there might be another one to join him this morning but no such luck.

He is Indian Runner/Blue Swedish cross.
Anyway, he is the first duckling I have had, even a "loner", that WANTS to be picked up, likes to be snuggled.(My "Happy" duck likes his head and neck scritched but has a cow about anything else). I am scared to "over" handle him.....
What to name the little girl/guy? My daughter says he thinks he is human, so a human name and one that could be used for a drake or a hen. Suggestions are highly appreciated.

Hmmmm....Swede and Indian Runner.....

How about Swedian? Or Rush? Rushie? LOL I don't know! I am horrid at naming animals. But I think it is fun to pick out names.

Oh, I love all our runner/swedish crosses. They turn out soooo pretty. Maybe you can upload a pic of the little one. I did a search for names meaning lone

Lorne (male) Lorna (female) from the word "lorn" meaning "alone/forsaken."

Soledad is a Spanish name for a female. It means solitude/loneliness. (The diminutive is "Chole.")

Isola...for a girl maybe as "isolé(e)" in French means lonely

Ooo....I like Lorne or Lorna! I just had to put the baby back into the brooder (he/she was snuggled in a kitchen towel up under my neck) and I am sure hearing about it! Like I told someone else....we might have created a monster,lol.

How about Lone Ranger - call him or her Ranger for short.

When I had a single duckling - Peepers, I gave him a feather duster for company but ended up buying day old hatching Bantam chicks to keep him company. He is a year old, and still thinks he is a chicken - has nothing to do with the ducks - and the chickens think he is one of them (even the chickens who were not raised with him

)

The Bantam RIR Roo - standing just "above" Peepers is Woodstock - Peepers and Woodstock were raised together and are still bestest buds, the only other chicken in this picture raised with Peepers is the little splash Rosecomb Roo on the far left.
