Our Narragansett tom has been diagnosed with Alektorophobia - What do we do?

Our Narragansett tom has a phobia of roosters! He will not come off the roost as long as a rooster is on the ground. Nearly starved to death before we discovered his phobia. Tried therapy, but it did not work. He is also scared of bantam roosters! His phobia is very specific! Any one else have toms with a phobia of roosters?

Alektorophobia is the fear of chickens. The origin of the word Alektoro is Greek (meaning rooster) and phobia is Greek (meaning fear). Alektorophobia is considered to be a specific phobia. http://common-phobias.com/alektoro/phobia.htm

Can you create a barrier - so he won't see the roosters? - Maybe put some cardboard up around his pen?

It's sad - but also funny.

He will strut and make a big show whenever any roosters get near his pen. But place one inside and he flies up to the 6"2" roosts and stays there until the rooster is removed. He is so brave as long as a fence is between them.

Poor guy! Just curious how old he is? Have you had him since he was a poult?? Maybe he had a traumatic experience with a rooster as a baby??

Have you tried a nice massage and subliminal messaging, maybe some positive coaching would help. Personally, I would try aromatherapy, the smell of a rooster in the frying pan may just turn him around!!! LOL

X2 on the barrier between him and the roos- mine is a bit standoffish when my roo comes ambling by the pen...
