The other day I noticed that there were alot of boll weevils throughout my bag of chicken scratch. I believe that there is about 25lbs of the scratch left in the bag. I wasn't sure if I should throw away the bag of scratch or is it ok to give it to the chickens still? I know that chickens eat bugs anyway, but I wan't to be sure. I don't want to hurt my chickens. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I would get rid of the weevils, they waste the protein by eating the feed. If the chickens will eat the weevils, all the better. The remaining feed should be fine.

It has been so damp here this spring that nothing lasts. I try not to buy more than I can feed in two weeks. Bugs, mold, something all the time.

This has been a bad year for bugs, as long as the grain is not moldy etc, the weevils shouldn't hurt the chickens. If you have room in a freezer you might try freezing the scratch and just take it out as you use it. That would at least control the weevils. Best check the rest of your feed also, if they are in the scratch they are probably working their way towards the other feed.
