My friend found a bird that fell out of its nest. It is too young to be fledged, it has no feathers. She doesn't know how to care for it, so is bringing it over late. I have a general idea how to care for a baby bird, but I would love any tips. I know keeping it warm and feeding it are the keys, and not taming it too much so if it lives and does well it can fledge from my house and live.

It has no feathers, so I'm not sure what kind of bird it is, but if I had to guess I'd say robin or some kind of starling.

Thanks

It is illegal to have wild birds in a person's house. We have had a couple experiences similar to yours and while I wish I was allowed to care for them we end up giving them to a animal sanctuary or hospital that will care for them. If you call around your local area, you should be able to find someone who can take it in. Good luck with the bird. I hope this is helpful.

The best thing for the nestling is to put it back in the nest, or rig a fake nest close to the original, well-sheltered. Make sure mom and dad are coming back to feed it if you do this.

Warm it before you give it anything. A cold bird will die from any kind of food or fluids. What is its condition?

Where are you? We can probably help you find a rehabber. It is not illegal to take the bird in while you wait for rehab, if it's unsafe where it is and can't be returned to safety. A rehabber is going to be able to care for this little one and socialize it properly...A baby with no feathers is going to have to be fed every 20-30 minutes, and is very fragile.

I ended up giving her the number to a local rehabber I found, and she took the bird there. Thank you for the help!
