Need help asap!!! Should i be concerned

I came out to see if the chick that pipped yesterday hatched and i found this. Chick is chirping but when momma hen saw it as I lifted it up, she started pecking at it a couple times. When I put her back down she stopped but we just had a chick get eaten by a different hen last week and don't want a repeat from momma. Do I need to remove it or can this be normal

That should be fine. I would check to see if the membrane has dried out. If not, it will hatch fine. If it is dry, moisten the membrane with warm water and a qtip, or some people use a bit of oil but that is typically with the incubator and I don't know if that could be appealing to the mother or hens in some way.

ok, i think she is pecking at the chipped pieces of shell. I'll go wet it down a little as I think that it has dried out a little.

And yea, I certainly don't want her pecking at it because of the oil.
