I won't be using an 'automatic' coop door, but rather I need ideas on how to make my coop door closeable while standing outside the run...I seem to recall seeing a pic where they rigged a pull-cord thingie with what looked like pulley wheels(?) so you can open and close it from the outside .... any/all replies most appreciated..NEED IDEAS please!

Go for a guillotine style door, a couple of channels on each side for the door to run up and down in, drill a small hole in the top of the door for the rope to tie to go through a couple pulleys and outside to a tie off.

Thanks, that's what I remember seeing in a pic on here somewhere...I'll try and jury-rig something up! Thanks again!

I have a guillitine style door, and use 1/16" cable to run it. Eye bolts keep the cable in line, and allow for 90 degree turns in the cable. I attach a spring clip to the end of the cable, and have two eye bolts by the outside of the coop. Hook the clip to the top eye bolt, and the door is closed, pull it down to the bottom eye bolt and the door is open. My door is made a 1/2" plywood, and I built the guide rails for the door with 1x2 and 1x4's so they form a channel, with the 1x4 keeping the door in the channel. As an extra measure of security, add a 2x4 threshhold in front of the door, so the door drops down below the top of the 2x4. This makes it so a predator cannot slip its claws under the door and lift it up. They can't get to the bottom of the door since the 2x4 blocks their access.
