Well I am sewing this adorable fabic to make curatins for the girls nesting boxes. First time, so, its gonna look it, but i dont want any loose fabic so i have to sew every corner. Hubby sees me frustrated and says; i dont think the girls need the curtains, do you?? I paused. Is he right? I dunno. Hes a guy, he doesnt understand. The curtains will continue! Besides, look how adorable the pattern is! I passed it at walmart clearance rack. Wish i had a sewing machine right about now 😳🐓❤️

I love it! It would provide great privacy! 🥰

Although...my nesting boxes dont have curtains 🤷‍♂️
I suppose if the girls are using the boxes without the curtains, then, why bother right cherry? Well, mine should be laying soon, (1st timer here…for me and the girls), so, I figured curtains and hay would do. Hey Berry, what do you use in the box as nest material? 🐓

I use hay, but I stock up the nesting boxes nice and full, especially for new layers.

I have curtains on my boxes, as well as a separate box that was not curtained. Girls wouldn't use the stand alone box until I put a cover on the front. I'm sure they would use the boxes if all curtains were removed, but they definitely seem to prefer the ones that have a cover on the front.

Funny, we were having a conversation last night about our nest boxes (NB for short), and not one, not two, but three hens (Silkies, but still...) all in one of our five NBs last evening. We were trying to come up with a reason for the attraction to that one NB, NB #4...

The only thing that made any sense is that it has better visibility into the remainder of the coop, and looks across NB #3 since NB #4 can only be accessed by coming through the door of NB #3. NB #4 also has a direct line of sight view to the coop opening via its "side door" entrance through NB #3. What's my point? I think they like to be able to see what's "outside" of the nest boxe(s) more than they are concerned with privacy...

Anyway, put curtains up if the hens can still find the boxes. I'm sure they'd like the feeling of safety, but they may not understand how to get through the curtains - they may see them as a barrier to their boxes...
