We have been owned by our chickens for the past 2 and 1/2 years, but have never had babies until this past week. I'm so much more excited than I thought I'd be, LOL. However, one of the babies seems a little off, meaning not as active, flaps wings when walking, like trying to balance herself, but she's very vocal, not all the time tho, and she "can" run. She hatched this past Wed, 2 others hatched the prior Sunday, then another on Thursday and Friday after her. Plus, she's still sitting on 2 more eggs. Candled those today and they are nearly full dark, but I couldn't see any movement so I'm thinking I'll give her another day or two, and if those don't hatch, I'll be moving her and the babies to a new coop. But as you can see this little girl is tiny compared to the others. She's definitely not as active as the others, staying under Mama more and not playing with the other chicks when she is out. I have looked her over and everything looks fine so should I just give it time or is there anything I need to do.

Since I'm here I'll show off the other babies. They came from 2 different families. I stole the eggs from the longhorn family and put them under the Light Brahma and her families eggs. One family is a white leghorn X rooster, with 2 Jersey Giant hens and 2 Golden laced wyandotte hens. The other family was a Black Copper Maran rooster, with Light Brahma hens. So, aside from the 3 black chicks, there is the last one to hatch. I can't quite tell which family she might've come from. What do you think?

She sounds like she's cold. She might be a borderline FTT (failure to thrive) and need a little TLC. Do you have an incubator you could stick her in overnight at around 95F degrees?

I'd also make her a vitamin drink with raw egg yolk and a few drops of vitamins, like Poultry Cell or NutraDrench. Syringe that to her slowly and she should drink it.

Your chicks are so cute! :love
