Hello All,
I wanted to introduce myself. I am a first time chicken owner in Virginia. I have wanted chickens for about three years now but we finally are in a situation to start our flock. Actually, I didn't expect to have chickens just yet but for Valentine's Day my husband and father started building me my own coop (my husband is such a romantic!) Now we have six pullets out in the coop: three red sex link and three golden comets. They are about 7 weeks old.
So far we have really enjoyed the experience. My 16 month old son loves to go check on his "peep peeps" and likes to sprinkle food and grit for them. My dad and DH had a really good time designing and building the coop too; it is a beautiful red tractor with an attached run and all kinds of fancy bells and whistles like a pull-out tray for cleaning and a pulley operated coop door.
Anyway, thanks for reading. I am sure I will be doing a lot of reading and asking many questions as I get a handle on raising chickens!
