I have a question about breeding my New Hampshire Hen to one of my roosters but not sure which rooster to choose. This is for my own backyard flock. I'm not looking for anything special just the right one to put her with and your knowledge on the crossing breeds.

New Hampshire Hen X

ROOSTERS
*BLACK AMERAUCANA
*BUFF ORPINGTON
*WHITE LEGHORN
*CRELE PENEDESENCA
*BLACK TAILED RED MARANS

I think this is entirely dependent on what your goals for the offspring are. Crele father will produce chicks that all have barring. The Marans will give you chicks similar in appearance to both parents. The Leghorn will give all white offspring with some leakage. The Ameraucana will produce all black offspring with pea combs and will carry the blue egg gene (laying some shade of green). I think I personally would be drawn to a colored egg layer but I think as a whole, breeding crossbreeds without a purpose sometimes doesn't make the most sense. In my anecdotal experience, people are drawn to unique looking, good quality, or rare birds. I've mostly stuck to either show lines or rare breeds/varieties and it has been beneficial to me in the sense that there is always a market for the birds, even cockerels. If you ever need to sell off extras, there is always a bigger interest if the birds has a desirable trait. Even if you wanted to sell hatching eggs down the line, if they're marketed as having a purpose or unique appearance, there will be a market.

Thank you for the response. Yeah I was thinking of the Leghorn at first but think it will have weird leakage but a great layer of large white eggs. Then I thought Orpington because the color of the chicks will remain the same, but then I thought Black Ameraucana for green eggs also 🤷‍♀️
