G'day all, I'm Neej and I'm located in the Australian Capital Territory. New to chickens, currently getting things together with the plan of stealing my bestie's insanely broody girl to hatch me some eggs so she can do the hard work of raising them and I can avoid the smell of a brooder in my house.

I was going for Australorps, but my daughter became set on Easter eggers, so we have eggs lined up of those. I'm thinking we'll probably settle on 2 EE, 1-2 Australorp, and 1-2 quamby, depending on what we manage to hatch out. Boys will be eaten, so I'm prepared for that as is my daughter. I have zero intention of keeping a rooster of any kind.

At this point I'm mostly here looking at coop flooring info/advice but I'm sure as I get further into the journey I'll need different help!

You can't go wrong with Easter Eggers and Australorps! I've never heard of Quambys, but if you get some, I'd love to hear more about them.

Have fun preparing and hatching when the time comes! Don't be afraid to ask questions and jump right on in here. Is your bestie a part of this group? May as well invite her, too! That would be fun!

Welcome to BackYard Chickens!

Quambys are on the newer end of things, developed in Tassie, though I've just seen someone say they hated them, so it looks like I have more research to do! They're big layers but dual purpose, apparently good eating even long past when they normally get processed (not an issue for me and the first attempt at a crow will be a death sentence). Pretty too, I reckon haha.

Not sure if my bestie is here. I'll ask her. Probably should be; she's got somewhere between 10 and 13 chooks in her yard (I'm never sure on the current count) so she should probably be here!
