Dreamt of getting my own chickens since two escaped Knott’s Berry Farm many decades ago and adopted my grandma, feasting in her SoCal backyard garden and giving her in return daily fresh eggs until an idiot neighbor ate the birds (probably stringy as...). During the first spring of COVID I decided to get the first batch of hens. One pearl leghorn (Pearly Bird), one golden Wyandotte (Goldie), and two Speckled Sussexes (Tweedy and Victoria). Victoria died after less than a week, was replaced by Buffy, the Buff Orpington. All good birds. Once had to stitch up Tweedy with dental floss after an unsuccessful hawk attack. Pearl now 5yo is the only original hen remaining (a carnivore killed Goldie, Tweedy died after two good years of the bug that killed her sister, Buffy Fluffernutter suffered a fatal extrusion of her innards). Three feral beasts of egg production white leghorns replaced those three but now after two years are growing tired so there’s a batch of straight run Oliver Eggers I picked up at TSC that I’m seriously worrying are 3/4 cockerel. Pictures of 3 of them attached. Hope to contribute to the community after using it for years. Thanks all!
