(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
- Finally got backyard chickens! Not very new to chickens, as I worked and lived on a farm with 105,000+ in a flock for mass production. Very different! Luckily, some skills and knowledge do translate. (For the record, I did NOT enjoy the mass production - I just needed to get through college in a rent-free home!)
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
- Five! Still just a few days old.
(3) What breeds do you have?
- I won't find out until they are pullets! But, each chick is a different color.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
- So far, my daughter's interest! She is 'checking on the chickens' every five minutes haha. I also enjoyed building their enclosures by hand with repurposed material, but the existing concrete building helped. Kiddos are excited to build enrichment toys!
(5) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
- Two daughters under 6, one pitbull acting like a mother hen, and one cat who could not care less about the peeping fluffballs.
