(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am brand new to raising chickens. I have been planning to do so for years, but have finally decided I am ready for them.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I have 3 chicks that are now about 3-4 weeks old. I’ve named them Peanut, Butters, & Jelly. I picked them up from our local feed store on 3/20, delivered from the local hatchery 3/17, I am not entirely sure how old they are as they already had their wing feathers starting to develop, see pic of their adoption day.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Black-Breasted Red Old English Bantams - they were from the assorted bantam bin, but I was able to identify their breed based on the hatchery’s website of breeds they have. They were the last 3 chicks they had in stock, I guess everyone apparently wants to try their hand at raising backyard chickens due to egg prices…ideally I had wanted Welsummers, but they were unavailable.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Their personalities and fresh eggs.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

We just bought our first house the fall before last and I am getting into gardening and small-scale urban homesteading. I enjoy reading, crocheting, cooking, hiking, fishing, camping, and traveling.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I spend my days as a high school special education teacher - my husband as an exploration field geologist - and my nights taking care of my 2 cats and now the chickens. We live in Boise, ID.
