Hi there! I'm the mom of a new little flock I call my Daring Ducks. Please don't mind any typos as my first lil duck, Geronimo, likes to sit on my desk and help (interfere with) my typing. This last spring I adopted Geronimo, a lone orphan mallard from a neighbor (there was a predation issue with their flock). As he was the only remaining duckling left (and the neighbor didn't want to deal with it), I took him in without knowing what I was doing. I spent HOURS scouring this website (and google) for information and it has been an immense help, so I thought it was high time I joined.

Geronimo is now going on 12 weeks old and just starting to get his drake colors in. But one thing I have learned since adopting Geronimo, is that ducks should not be alone, so I got five more mallard ducklings to be his flock. They came in a bit later and younger, so they are about 3 weeks old currently, respectively named Yippee, Banzai, Cannonball, Tally-ho, and Wahoo (hence "Daring Ducks"). They are separated for now, but once the littles are old enough, I hope to introduce them to Geronimo.

One of my favorite things has been seeing how fast they grow, but it's bittersweet because I wish they could stay small forever. But it has also been so informative to closely monitor them and see the subtle differences in their personalities, like how Geronimo prefers warm sweet showers inside to cold gross stream water, or how Tally-ho (a runt) is an absolute spaz running laps and infecting everyone with the zoomies, and how Cannonball (the heftiest of the ducklings) is a lazy chonk who will sit down to eat every chance they get, or how Banzai will jump up, down, left, right, high, low, from a ledge, or even straight up off the ground. They are such wonderful little animals.

I also enjoy working out solutions to the problems that arise with this whole endeavor, such as conquering the infamous messiness of ducks. But when I'm not being a crazy nut trying to reinvent the wheel, I am an artist, programmer, and author. Becoming the mom of these little ducks has since sparked many a creative endeavor, such as writing a little song/poem about the Daring Ducks that I might turn into an illustrated children's book or something.

Thank you for reading this! I can't wait to finally be able to participate in this community!
