Hello, I’m an old member jumping back in after several chicken less years. I had two different flocks while living in Florida, but I have since returned to Maine, where I grew up. I will be picking up a couple of silkies this weekend, and an additional 4 chicks in May. My questions will mostly concern winter, since I’ve never had chicks in Maine before.

I raise and breed silkies in Wisconsin. They’re pretty tough unless frizzled. We let them free range once paths are shoveled and temps are 20F or up with no/little wind. Some stay in though. We heat the coops to 40F more for us than them, but they appreciate it.
