Hi all. I've been hatching eggs for years. but this month I set down 12 Posted from ebay Australia eggs from Giant Brahma Chickens. At the day 16 candle, I only removed 4 eggs. All the rest are still showing activity.

I have on loan my neighbor's Borotto incubator. Seems like a dream compared to my Janoel 12. Janoel 12 is fine, I had it for 10 years, but I run a secondary thermostat because it can overheat if the ambient temp goes above 28c. other than that its been ok, nothing like a borotto though. worlds apart.

I'm just wondering what sort of hatch rates I could not expect given that:

at day 16 I have what looks like good activity and growth.
Using Borotto Incubator
Temps and RH% are perfect
pointy ends down
supposedly good stock
Very clean eggs
left to settle 24 hours point down before incubation

I'm getting excited and am dying to know what sort of hatch rate I might now expect. Does anyone care to speculate?

I have had 6 batches of eggs shipped to me from various parts of the U.S. Last year, I got about 70% hatch rate. This year, around 30%. Our USPS must've changed to a bunch of football players or something.

I wish you a great hatch!

Postal eggs, much cooler term than shipped eggs. I know they say 50 percent on shipped eggs is good but you can certainly get much higher (but disasters do happen). I managed 6/8 on shipped quail eggs 8 days in te mail, half the eggs smashed, my incubator was a degree too cold, the chicken rail wasn’t doing a good job with quail eggs, and it was my first time incubating anything. They are amazingly tough and forgiving! Enjoy!

It seems like a dream but they are not, the Borotto 24's have a known issue of loosing heat through the thin plastic shell causing cold spots around the edges, so keep them in the middle when you switch to lockdown mate. I returned one because an incubator that you can only put 8 eggs into is pretty useless when they are sold by the dozen.
