I finished building a coop in January for my 15yo who had joined 4H. It was a slow build....after work....on weekends as time allowed. This is the end result. We started with 6 chickens...then added 4 more...but through attrition (explained in my welcome post) we're down to 7. 4 red sexlinks, either 2 easter eggers and 1 blue laced gold wyandotte or the other way round. We'll be adding 4 cuckoo marans to the flock mid-April.

Everything is solar due to the distance from the house in our yard. There are 2 wifi PTZ cameras (1 in the roost and 1 in the run), there is an automatic door and 1 solar motion activated light in the run. They all have their own little panels at this time. I'm considering repurposing a larger 100w panel and battery I have to run all of them instead.

I have a rain barrel now but have yet to install the gutters to collect the rainwater. This will supply a water trough for them with a level control device.

That looks really nice. I like the extra wide door. What material are the nest boxes made out of and what kind of wood did you use for the build? It's hard to tell from the photo, is it set on concrete? Thanks

The nesting boxes are just standard OSB with a tin roof. I used flex seal on the inside to coat the boxes to help keep out moisture inside. I did that on the floor of the roost and litter trays. The whole thing is set on 2x8 cinder blocks. The wood base layer is pressure treated. Termites are a bad thing here in S.La.

Termites are bad here also, along with those monster size biting ants.

Flex seal - what a great idea. Those commercials always make me laugh.

You do have a beautiful coop.
