So we already have a farm visit from the vet scheduled for this coming Friday!

I am curious if anyone has had any experience with what appears to be dandruff on a goat. He was fine on Friday when i tucked them in. And on Saturday my husband told me to go out to the barn and check on our wether Loki. He was wet! The barn has a brand new room and it’s been too cold for actual moisture to be liquid.

Sure enough he was wet! And also covered with a bunch of nasty white flakes down at the base of his hair like dandruff. No smell or odor to it. Just wet and nasty flakes. We just cannot figure it out.

Any experience with skin issues and goats?!?

May be from lice. Have you wormed recently. Ivomec will take care of internal and external parasites.

Farm vet came out today and said lice! Ugh. Not at all what i expected. I was thinking mineral issues the whole time. He gave a shot and is coming back in 4 weeks to do a follow up check. I wasn’t here, my hubby took care of it.

Any suggestions for how to control lice. Now that we have treated it on the animal don’t i need to do something to treat the barn?

Thanks!

If you have more questions about goats there is a website just like BYC called BackYardHerds.com
:celebrateBut instead of poultry it's goat rabbits ,sheep exedra.
Yeah i have been a member there for as long as i have been here and i am not super impressed with response times. Chicken people seem to love to talk about their animals and farms and get right to you.

Per some one else’s advice here i tried thegoatspot and have been very happy. Just found it though!

Have you added new goats recently? Life can be controlled or eliminated by using ivomec a few times a year. You are more likely to see life in colder months.

Nope we have had a closed herd of 3 since we picked them up last April. I ways unaware that lice were more prevalent in the winter. Live and learn!

Thanks i will look into Ivomec!
