I have 2 Russian Orloff cockerels. One started crowing a few weeks ago and up until today his crow has been managable. He is crowing every time he sees me or during the morning. picking him up stops it. But i cant always be there to pick him up.
We are moving and where we are moving roosters are allowed.
Would a no crow collar limit his strong crow until we move in hopefully a month or two?
I was looking at this one as i had a cheaper velcro one for a cock before and it didnt work.

Any advice is helpful!

Would blacking out the run/coop help to atleast for a few hours? He starts crowing at 7-8 in the morning so its way after daylight hours.

I haven't tried no-crow collars before, but if it's only temporary then maybe it's worth a shot. Blacking out the windows will definitely help though, it's not 100%, but it should limit it a little bit. You could also just hold him a ton if that stops him, I'm sure he wouldn't object to extra cuddles, plus then you get a nice socialized rooster 😊

Thank you for your reply. Ill black out the windows with old feed bags for now.
He isnt the biggest fan of me so i dont know why he crows like he does when he sees me. but i dont mind picking him up.

Maybe he knows you're a food source, and maybe he alerts the girls. My cock may he rest in peace, used to crow when my father parked his car, and he didn't like him at all.

Roosters crow. Ours starts at 4am in the summer. Collars seem to only be partly effective in some Roos. Problem is they can be a choking hazard if he gets his head in a small area and the collar gets caught. If you are moving soon, and crowing won't be an issue, it may be a temporary fix, but be aware that they are not magic and can be dangerous. My rule is if you (or your neighbors) can't abide crowing, don't have roosters.

Our close neighbors don't have a problem and i dont. Its the town rule. I understand they crow. I have wanted to keep one of my cockerels from a hatch since i started hatching.
I was hopinh it coulf be a temporary fix since the town we are moving to doesnt have a chicken limit and doesnt have a no rooster allowed law.

NEVER ceases to confuse me. People in towns allowed to blast music full volume from their houses/cars, drive motorcycles that blast 120decible exahaust, yet a rooster isn't allowed. I'd get some obnoxious 1920s show tune music and blast that at 5 AM if they didn't let me have a rooster. Rooster bad/obscenity laden rap music Ok?
