Have a buff orp and a bc maran hen. Got them in june when they were reportedly 2-3 months old.
Combs have been flushing red for a few months now. No eggs. Theyve been on layena and layer mash for about a month from starter. Theyre perfectly healthy.

Will it be next year? I heard orps could lay in the winter.

I agree with the above. I add new pullets every year to my flock to keep a steady egg supply. If they are not laying by mid October I usually don’t see an egg from them until early spring. For mine usually beginning of March I start getting eggs from them. It could be earlier for you. February is subzero here usually, so I am only getting a couple eggs a week from my previous year pullets that month because their bodies are conserving energy to stay warm. However, as soon as March hits it starts to warm up to the 30’s and 40’s then the eggs begin to flow.

Well that was suspected but totally disappointing. These will be some awfully expensive eggs.

In the last week their combs have gotten noticeably bigger and blood red. And the orp is squatting when we go to pick her up.
So even though we are in the depths of winter will she lay her first egg imminently or will it still be march?
