Hello,

I'm needing advice. I live off-grid and currently do not have any power source.

How can I keep my baby chicks warm until they are ready to be on their own.

Are there any battery powered heat lamps out there?

Thanks for any and all help.

Hi, and welcome to Back Yard chickens.
I am wondering how you stay warm and where you are located.
Do you have chickens now or expieriance with them? Did you order chicks or pick them up at a feed store?
The poineers probably hatched and raised chicks under a broody hen, but in a pinch likely kept them near a wood stove in some fashion until feathered.
Do you have solar power?
Good luck!

I have a wood stove in my cabin.
I'm sorry, I forgot to mention in located in Tennessee, closer to KY border.
I do not have any solar power at the moment.

Also, I haven't gotten the chicks yet, because I wanted to figure out the heat thing first, but I'm hoping to go get them this week sometime.

Welcome to byc, good luck with the chicks. I’m not sure what you could use as a heat source but wrap some thick blankets around whatever you’re keeping them in to keep out drafts.

You could keep them near your wood stove. Have some way of measuring the temperature. I would start with it at about 95F and then lower it by 5 degrees every week. Wrap something like cardboard or blankets round the enclosure to stop drafts getting in and provide insulation.

Maybe an infrared thermometer and close to the stove as long as you can gauge the temp, protecting them from drafts. I'm no expert, just thoughts. I'm kinda jealous my life goal is to live off grid. One day....
