i have two 3 week old duckling, today i brought their brooder outside so they could get some fresh air and i noticed that both ducklings (one more than the other) have these pocket looking masses. their squishy and don’t feel warm and are smooth, when i picked one of them up for observation she started to drool a lot and was spitting up water. not like water water, but it had a saliva consistency. i’m new to duck keeping and duckling raising, does anyone know what this is, what i can do about it, should i take them to the vet??

I have seen posts about stuff like this and people would ask if the ducklings had be gorging on food after having an empty food bowl, which is true for me. i’m usually at school on the week days and whenever i feed then on the morning their always super hungry and eat super fast.

That is his crop, sort of like a storage stomach. Perfectly normal if he just ate. Try to give them enough food so they don’t run out and gorge. No need to worry as long as the duckling is acting fine and the lump goes away in a few hours.
If these are your first ducklings, are they getting nutritional yeast, duckling food, or niacin? If they are only getting chick food it would be better to look into it now, before any issues.
Cute ducklings btw.

I always have plenty of food and water for my ducklings and their container is full 27/7. They grow very fast and need a food supply in front of them at all times. At least that is what I have always done and never had them eating fast or filling their crops up like that. Good luck with yours.
