i went to petsmart today and bought the girls 2 lil' bails of alfalfa, 24 crickets and 25 super mealworms. i also saw this bag of wild bird food that had some grains, dried fruit, and nuts in it. i wanted to get that too, but i wondered if it would be an equivalent of corn for the chickens (not very nutritional or good for them, but ok for a treat now and then). i didn't want to buy it till i asked everyone here.

I bought something similar at Walmart. I then "enhanced" it. I added flax, sunflower chips, cracked corn, pumpkin seeds, nyjer seed, and dry peas. They thoroughly enjoy it. I throw them a scoop when no one is home to give them breakfast or lunch scraps. The Walmart stuff was really light on both fruit and nuts. It had a few half peanuts and some small pieces various unidentifiable dry fruit. The biggest thing would be to check to nutrition (protein levels, etc.) and see how it fits in with other stuff you feed. In general, though, as a treat it should be fine.
